Finding the right doctor that you can relate to is imperative to fighting renal failure. My go to doctor is Dr Dawood at St Augustines hospital. Sho, this is a busy man and you can wait for hours before you get to see him. But I know I am working with one of the best in this field. Another doctor I go and see for a second opinion is Dr Cullis at Life Hilton hospital. My opinion, both are top class.
It took me 5 years to find my doctor. For many years I went to urologists, the doctor you need is a nephrologist and hopefully a specialist at it.
Once you have a doctor that you like don’t be afraid to go for second opinions. I battled with this for a long time. I felt that going for a second opinion was like “cheating” on my current doctor. Every doctor is different, and the way they see your illness could be different. I’m sure you have heard the saying two heads are better than one. I am not saying you must go to a different doctor after every appointment, just for the big decisions, get another perspective.
If possible find a doctor that is close to where you live. I am very lucky here in that I live in Westville, Durban and my doctor is at St Augustines hospital which is reasonably close to me. So if I have a problem I can to St Augustines and my doc is right there.
