After the first weekend my recovery moved very quickly to the point where I was walking around very comfortably. On the first Wednesday post-op I was disconnected from the machines. This was a massive win :).

Although I was getting better, Dusty was battling down in ICU with a stomach bug. I felt guilty about this. He stopped his life to give me a huge gift, a gift that will give me years of health and good times with the people that mean the most to me. I know I could never have seen what was to come, and it also wasn’t my fault, but he had already undergone a huge operation and now he was struggling with something completely unrelated.

ICU is a very tough place to be in. It never sleeps! You keep telling yourself that it will only be a few days then you will be home, but time seems to stop. What feels like days is only hours. Sadly, Dusty saw some one pass away in front of him.

Finally, Dusty was moved to a private room in Surgical 1. HAPPY DANCE! They stopped by my room for a few minutes before going to his room, this was a good day. The nice thing about a private room in S1 is that you can push the visiting hours a little because you are not affecting anyone else. Tin could now spend some quality time with her man with the knowledge that he was going home soon.

Dusty went from strength to strength and I was also headed in that direction. Soon we would be home with our families in the environment that we know and feel most comfortable in.

When I think back at to the journey, we went through I am in awe of our God. How he looks after his children. Even in times in hospital where I felt furthest from Him, He was/is always there guiding me, carrying me and strengthening me.

Dusty went home on the Friday. He was in hospital for 8 days. I went home the following Monday after 12 days in hospital.

I am going to do a post on Dusty and Tin in the next week or so. Do you have any questions for them? If so, please leave them in the comments section below or email me directly @ antsaville@gmail.com. Hopefully they can answer them for you.
