What do you do when life sucker punches you? Who do you turn to for answers? Where do you run to? Back in 2003 I was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease and this was my sucker punch. I turned to my faith in Jesus but I had nowhere to run. This disease was going to catch up to me at some point in the future.
This blog is about my journey with kidney failure. The highs and lows, my support structures, operations, faith and finances.
I was in grade 11 when my mom took me out of school for the afternoon and drove me down to Westville hospital where I was x-rayed and diagnosed. I am not sure who it was harder on. My mom was more emotional than me, but I think she understood the ramifications more than me. Just that morning she was given a verse during her quite time that read “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” (2 Chro 20 vs 15. NKJ). This verse has stuck with me ever since. As I write this I am still in the battle but it is so good to know that God has this under control.
One of my favourite passages in the bible comes from 1 Peter 5 vs 6 -12: “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experiences by your brotherhood in the world. But may God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen and settle you. To Him be the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
That’s all for now. Until next time. God Bless.
