The day has finally arrived. Nerves, check. Excitement, check.

We were a little slow getting going this morning. We made the most of our time together with a leasurely breakfast and fun around the house. This was until we got a phone call saying that being at the hospital at midday was not a guideline but rather an instruction. Whoops, my bad. Everything then got a bit frantic. Shay drove like the champion race car driver she is and we made it from home to St Augustines in record time. This was a stressful time because I was forced to rush my goodbye to Evi. This broke my heart and put me in tears. I wasn’t going to see my little princess for almost two weeks.

I walked into the reception and was met by big smiles from Dusty, his wife Taniele (Tin) and her sister, Tam … I don’t think I shared the same smile with them, I was still sad from saying goodbye. Little did I know that while I was getting admitted Shay had found a parking and was coming inside with Evi. What an amazing surprise! More time with Evi!

Shay and Evi came down to my room in surgical one and we got to spend some quality time together. Until Evi was picked up by her Nana and that left Shay and I with Dusty, Tin and Tam.

The afternoon was spent doing blood tests, scans and x-rays. Until the evening where I hopefully went through my last dialysis session ever.

Me, Shay, Tin, Sister Naidoo and Dusty during my last dialysis session.

A very nice visit came from good mates of mine Dalts and Dev. Having them with me for an hour of dialysis was a good distraction and we had a number of good laughs. Thanks guys for coming, it means the world to me.
